Baby skin care routine: A step-by-step guide to baby-soft skin

From the day you welcome your precious bundle of joy into the family, taking care of your little one shoots to number 1 on the priority list. Babies are known for their delicate skin, and fragile immune system. Rashes and eczema might be seen as a common skincare problem for babies, but every little change in their skin could make parents anxious and asking the question: what am I supposed to do?

Well, we are here to help you out, new parents!

Here’s an easy step-by-step baby skincare routine you and your little one can follow!

Baby showering best practices

While we typically have the mindset of taking a shower at least once a day, your baby might not need a bath every day. Instead, tub time 2 to 3 times a week is more than enough for a newborn. Take note that you should keep the bath time between 5 to 10 minutes and only use mild body wash products like the Natural Botanical Head & Body wash on babies to avoid skin irritation.

Keep the baby's skin moisturised

Nuzzling and caressing your baby’s soft skin may make you wonder: does my baby’s skin really need moisturising? The answer is a big yes! Every infant’s seemingly perfect skin is fragile and requires proper skincare to lock in moisture. After every bath, pat your baby dry and gently apply a thin layer of moisturiser all over their body. In addition, you may keep your baby’s skin hydrated with the nourishing moisturisers from the Pigeon Natural Botanical Baby Skincare line. Apply the Water Gel in the morning for a non-sticky burst of hydration and at night, apply the Milky Lotion for 24-hour moisturisation.  Do it several times a day if your little one has dry skin.

Give the baby a gentle massage session

Apart from simply applying the water gel and lotion to moisturise the baby’s skin, why don’t you try integrating it with a massage? A nice massage session is proven to be an excellent opportunity to build strong emotional bonding between you and the baby. All you have to do is get a little of the Natural Botanical Baby Massage Oil and warm it up between your palms, then gently massage the baby from chest to tummy and slowly, move on to the limbs. A daily massage session for 5 to 10 minutes can help babies to calm down and release tension, allowing them to sleep better.

Avoid the contact with common irritants and allergens

If you ever noticed some rashes, milia, or eczema on your baby’s skin, that could be a sign that something has triggered an allergic reaction on your baby’s skin. The common irritants usually come from what they wear. To avoid this, it’s best to choose loose, soft, and breathable fabrics for your baby’s clothing. Make sure to wash and rinse them well to remove any potentially irritating chemicals, and don’t forget to cut off those itchy tags to prevent any harm to your baby’s delicate skin.
